Let’s Try Dry Jan

🎉 Happy New Year, fabulous family! 🎉 Guess who's decided to kick off 2024 with a sparkling start? That's right, yours truly—It’s me ! 💁‍♂️✨ But hold onto your highlighters, because this January, I'm diving headfirst into the world of sobriety with the legendary #DryJanuary challenge! 🚫🍹 Now you all no I socially really enjoy a drink but as I journey into my 38th year I have really had a different reaction to alcohol . I know everyone talks about how the hangovers get tougher and longer but actually it’s how drink affects my mood that has really urged me to give Dry Jan a go . I really don’t feel myself after a night out anymore and it takes me a few days to feel my usual positive + energised self again.

I know everyone talks about how the hangovers get tougher and longer but actually it’s how drink effects my mood that has really urged me to give Dry Jan a go . I really don’t feel myself after a night out anymore and it takes me a few days to feel my usual positive + energised self again.

I shared on social media today that I was doing this and lots of you said you wanted to join along the journey with me and I also asked for some top tips from anyone who has done it before and I have collated some of the suggestions. So fear not, my dazzling beauties, for I bring you not only my commitment to a booze-free January but also a handful of tips to make this journey as smooth as my skincare routine! 💆‍♂️✨

Tip 1: Swap It Like It's Hot

Replace those fancy cocktails with some mocktail magic! 🍹🚫 Trust me, there's a whole world of alcohol-free concoctions waiting to elevate your taste buds to new heights. Who needs a Cosmopolitan when you can have a Cosmo-MOCK-tan? 😏 Ok this name might need some work LOL. Lots of you guys suggested many alcohol- free options. I am an ambassador for Gordons 0.0 and I have been drinking the alcohol- free option for a year and a half now and it tastes the exact same as a regular gin. I feel super confident that I will not be missing out on any social activities in Jan as I have the 0.0 option as my not so secret weapon✨

Tip 2: Hydration Nation

Join me in the hydration sensation! 💦 Staying well-hydrated is key to conquering Dry January with grace and style.I mean our skin will already be thanking you minus the alcohol so why not take it to the next level with some extra hydration. Invest in a chic water bottle and strut your stuff with H2O in hand like it's the latest designer accessory! 💧👜 If you have seen the Stanley mugs everyone has been using they are like carrying a full office water cooler around with you but I have been sucked into the hype and I am totally buying one. Now they are ridiculously large but I need something I can’t miss to keep me hydrated . I am so bad at drinking water so I am going to make this water bottle as obnoxious as possible to make me remember. That said, you can just use any old bottle and just hit the ground running.

Tip 3: Support Squad Goals

Find a partner in crime! 💖 I am super lucky that the hubby is going to do this with me but from the response I have seen today there are lots of people out there who want to reduce their alcohol intake. I actually read today that 1 in 4 people look to reduce alcohol intake in January. Encourage your fabulous friends to join the Dry January extravaganza but also if they aren’t into it no sweat… just do it with me. I will be your pal throughout this month.. Also I hate that people feel this needs to be a boring thing. I am interested in finding ways to make it interesting and fun. Let's turn this into a party where the only hangover is from laughter and good times! 🎈🎊

Tip 4: Be accountable

I have downloaded the Try Dry App which I will link below. So far it seems to be a free app. I tried a few others today and they asked for a subscription. Not sure how good it is yet but lots of you recommended. You log everyday if you have had a drink. It shows how many days you are dry and also how much money you have saved by not drinking . I already know what I am doing with the money I save 😏 I think the app is great because for me it will keep me accountable as I have to log if I have had a drink that day. I also get super motivated by seeing progress and numbers. It’s the same with my Apple Watch and fitness. It’s a super motivational tool for me . Now, I don’t feel like there should be a definitive start of end date for this. If you didn’t start yesterday that doesn’t matter. Start today! If you decide to have a drink later this week and want to start again that’s no problem. I have set myself a goal of the 31 days of January so that’s my aim and I’ll review how I feel at the end of that.

Other Suggestions from you guys:

  • Get out and exercise or go for a walk during your usual wine time in the evening. Please do this with a pal and safely, it is super dark in the evenings at the minute.

  • Read the ‘ The Naked Mind’ by Annie Grace. I haven’t ready it yet but I am going to start tonight . Apparently very good if you are sober curious.

  • Do a photo a day to show the difference it makes for your skin. I personally am not going to do this but some people seem to have really seen a difference.

  • Have caffeine free coffee and teas in the house to allow for an alternative in the evening without putting more caffeine in your system

  • Last suggestion was a bit extreme … get pregnant 😃 . That’s a step too far for me 🫃

Some of the benefit to week one :

  • Improved hydration

  • Improved sleep : by the end of the week you could improved your sleep by 5/6 REM cycles.

  • Improved Energy : by end of week we should feel a little more energised

  • Bloating in the face should reduce: All the Festive Alcohol should be out of our system after 72 hours.

Now from everything I have read week one is the more challenging week but I am pretty confident that we can fight through. If you enjoy a regular glass of wine in the evening you may crave sugar so just keep that in mind. I will be checking in weekly but I am really pumped for this . I am so excited to see how I feel at the end of January and I already feel a weight lifted knowing I have made the decision to take a month to invest in myself. I have a hectic few weeks ahead so I really want to feel my best.

We can do this people !!!
